Similar to Tiktok, Instagram users can record and edit 15 to 30 second video clips set to music together.
You can share them in their Stories, in the Explore Feed, and in the new Reels tab on the user’s profile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the latest app update, you can now find Instagram<\/a> Reels at the forefront of Instagram \u2013 making it the centerpiece of the new main navigation bar.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is a big change to the app and a major push for users to browse and share the Reels more often.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Instagram has defined the Reels tab as \u201ca place where you can watch short, funny videos, to help them be discovered by new viewers”.
On the Reels tab, you will also see popular and trending accounts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Instagram, \u201cThis tab will provide a deep and immersive Reels experience with auto-play videos and a creation entry point that opens directly to the Reels camera.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to seeing Reels in the new Reels tab, you can also find Reels on the Explore page.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While the reels algorithm isn’t locked yet, it feels similar to the TikTok For You page.\u00a0It is probably influenced by who you already follow, what content you engage with, and where you are.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As you scroll, you may notice that some Reels have a “Featured” label above the title.\u00a0According to Instagram, \u201cIf your real video gets featured, you’ll get a notification.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The actual videos are a direct response to the growing popularity of Tik Tok, which has been growing in popularity over the past 12 months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Adweek, TikTok had \u201cthe most downloads ever for any app in a quarter\u201d in 2020.\u00a0And TikTok’s core demographic is rapidly changing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once dominated by Gen-Z users, Millennials now make up a larger share of TikTok’s user base than ever before \u2013 making the platform a much more attractive proposition for advertisers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So it’s no surprise that Instagram is making moves to replicate TikTok’s most popular features \u2013 especially in regions where TikTok doesn’t have a strong foothold like Brazil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In fact, this isn’t the first time Facebook, the parent company of Instagram, has tried to launch a TikTok alternative.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
