Instagram Ad Models and Ad Formats

If you want to get a high return from your ads, you need to learn technical information about Instagram ad models and usage before creating your ads.

In this article, I will tell you about Instagram ad models, ad formats, ad spaces, design requirements and technical information you need to know.

Instagram Ad Spaces

When you advertise on Instagram, your ad will appear on people’s homepages and stories, among images and videos shared by other Instagram accounts they follow.

All Instagram ads have the word “Sponsored” at the top right and various phrases such as contact us, get more information, under the image.

Instagram Ad Formats

There are 4 different instagram ad formats you can use when advertising on Instagram:

  • photo ads
  • Video ads
  • Carousel (multi-image) ads
  • Story ads

📜Instagram supports video ads more than photo ads. This is why photo ads can be more expensive than video ads.

Instagram Advertising Models

Story Ads

You can use 3 ad formats for story ads: video, carousel (multi-image) and photo.

Video:
 Videos published in story ads last 15 seconds. However, if users want to continue watching, they can watch the entire ad with the “continue watching” option.

The aspect ratio of the video you will use should be vertical, ie 9:16, 16:9 or 4:5, and the resolution of your video can be at least 600 x 1067, but 1080 x 1920 pixels is ideal.

Your video duration can be up to 120 seconds and your file size can be up to 30MB.

Video codecs required for your video: h.264, VP8, Audio Codecs: AAC, Vorbis, and the file format should be mp4 or .mov.

Photo: Photos in
 story ads have a 5 second broadcast time, if the user wants, they can swipe the screen and exit the story.
The ratio you will use in your photos should be vertical, ie 9:16. The resolution should be at least 600 x 1067, but our recommendation is 1080 x 1920. Make sure your file format is .jpg or .png, and the image size is 30MB maximum.

Carousel (multi-image):
 Carousel ads allow users to view a series of photos or videos. In this ad model, you can use 10 videos or 3 photos.

The technical requirements for Carousel ads are the same as the video and photo technical requirements I mentioned above.

📜We recommend that you pay attention to the top and bottom parts of the image in order to prevent the important parts of your advertisement image from being covered by your profile photo, name or scroll up text.

If the ad image is 1080 x 1920, make sure that the important parts of the image are in the 1080 x 1420 area and right in the middle.

📜The text in the image of the ad should not be more than 20%, this may cause Instagram to reach your ad to less people.

Home (Stream) Ads

You can use 4 models in the ads shown on the homepage, these are: video, carousel (multi-image), photo and collection ads.

Video: If you are going to use video, the video duration should be no more than 120 seconds. The video size must be at least 500px and the video aspect ratio must be at least 400 x 500.

The file size must be no more than 30 MB. We recommend using the video codec H.264 , stereo AAC audio compression formats with bitrate of 28kbps or higher.

Photo: If you are going to use photos, the file format should be: jpg or png. Use the highest resolution image available without breaking the aspect ratio guidelines.

Make sure your ad text does not exceed two lines and your photo size is at least 500px. The aspect ratio of your photo should be at least 400×500. You can use up to 30 hashtags in your ad text.

Carousel (multiple images): In this ad model, you can choose at least 2, maximum 10 images or videos. You can use the file format, jpg or png for photo and MP4 or MOV for video. Instagram supports many video formats, You can see the file formats supported by Instagram ad models from this link .

The video file size can be up to 4GB and the video length can be up to 60 seconds. The recommended resolution is at least 1080 x 1080 pixels. The ratio of the image should be square, ie 1:1. Your ad text should be two lines and your headline should be one line.

Collection : In this ad model, the technical information we mentioned above for the picture or video is valid. Your image should have a ratio between 16:9 and 1:1.
